As we reflect on the different steps demonstrated in this more Teacher Centered introduction to inquiry, think about how the inquiry process was scaffolded, assessed, and managed by the teacher. Inquiry takes time and requires practice by both teachers and students to be effective. The time investment will result in higher student engagement and improved student understanding. Watch the following video clip of the students carrying out their experiment. Reflect on how the students are involved and how engaged they are with the inquiry process.
CONSIDER THIS:
As you watch this video...
- Reflect on the collaboration between the students. How does this create a more powerful learning experience for students?
- Where would you place the engagement of these students on the inquiry continuum?
- Watch more interaction by the students as they continue their experiment and continue to collaborate, discuss, and learn from each other in part two.
