Beginning Teacher: I want to do a lesson on metric measurement. My seventh graders know nothing about it, and I know they will have to know it for the state test. I plan to have them stay at their desks and measure things they find in the classroom so they can see the value of knowing about the metric system. What do you think?

High Quality Teacher Induction and Mentoring

Ellen Moir's picture

Nearly 75 percent of beginning teachers now participate in induction programs, and 80 percent report having a mentor, according to a new report published by the National Staff Development Council. NTC maintains that the quality of induction and mentoring support is critical to achieve desired outcomes, including student achievement gains documented in a recent federally funded study of induction. However, the intensity of these services and the availability of these opportunities to teachers in urban districts is inconsistent.

Networking with other Mentors - Introductions

Jenny Combs's picture

Do you want to network with other mentors - across the nation and world?

Would you like to hear what other mentors are doing?

If you would like, please do a brief introduction of yourself:

  • Tell us where you are from and what type of mentoring "gig" you have - full release to mentor?  part time?  volunteer?  after school?  online?
  • What experiences brought you into this role?
  • Why are you passionate about mentoring beginning teachers?
