This paper presents a summary and analysis of Mathematica Policy Research Inc.'s randomized controlled trial of comprehensive teacher induction programs. The study, funded by the U.S. Dept. of Education's Institute for Education Sciences, found that beginning teachers
who received two years of comprehensive induction support produced greater student learning gains in mathematics and reading. Results indicate that high-quality teacher induction programs strengthen student learning and should be built into human capital systems by policymakers and educational leaders.
